Why Should I Join?

Who belongs to YPC?
We’re a group of motivated professionals who want to make contacts while learning and having fun! Our members are artists, teachers, lawyers, investment bankers, account executives, not-for-profit professionals, etc. in the Chicagoland area.
 
What is the average age of an YPC member?
Our members typically range in age from 21 to 40 years old. Though we have no age restrictions, the average age is 28 years old.
Can YPC help me get a job?
Definitely! Many people leverage the group to network, expand their career options, and, yes, land a new job.
What are the benefits of being an YPC Member?
Benefits include:
  • discounted fees at most YPC sponsored events and activities (members can save around $200 a year in admission fees)
  • free attendance at select events
  • access to our YPC Members Only events
  • automatic newsletter access, which is the first place we publicize upcoming events
  • chance to receive additional benefits from our sponsors and partners
Can my company buy multiple memberships for employees?
Of course! Corporate membership allows a company to receive discounted membership for its employees. So, ask if your company wants to sponsor you and a few coworkers. Tell the interested parties to contact cmembership@ypchicago.org.

What About Events?

 
Do I have to be a member to attend YPC events?
No, but some YPC events are for Members Only. Also, as a Non-Member, you will pay a higher entrance fee. As a Member, you can save over $200 a year!
What kind of events do you have in the course of a year?
Our events often differ annually. But, our yearly calendar generally includes the following:
  • Monthly Networking Breakfast
  • Monthly Professional Development Workshops / Professional Networking Opportunities
  • Quarterly Panel Events
Why should I attend an event?
We offer a variety of dynamic events with topics that are going to help your current career growth. Each event is also designed to give you ample opportunities to network, gain professional development, socialize with other Chicagoland professionals, and volunteer. No matter what you’re interested in, there is sure to be one (or five or six) for you!
Do I have to register for YPC events?
It’s usually a good idea. We ask you to pre-register via our Event Calendar so that we can accurately estimate how much food and space we’ll need. If events fill up, you might be turned away at the door as a walk-up. Don’t let this happen to you! Typically, you will pay more at the door than you would if you registered in advance.
When are most events scheduled?
Most of are from Monday-Friday; we may also have select social and sports events scheduled on the weekend.
Do people go to events even if they don’t know anyone there?
You’ll find that those who attend our events are friendly and willing to talk to everyone. After all, we’re all there to network, so everyone makes an effort to meet new people.
What should I wear?
Because most events are scheduled before or after work, come as you are. Most of our events are business casual, but other events can range from jeans to professional attire. If special attire is required, it will be mentioned in the event description on our Event Calendar.
I have registered for an event but am unable to attend. Can I get a refund?
YPC is happy to refund your registration fee up to one week prior to an event. Due to the commitments we make with our venues and vendors we are unable to offer refunds in the last seven days prior to an event.

Other Stuff:

Is my involvement in YPC considered a business expense?
You have to check with your employer. Some employers will directly reimburse a YPC membership and/or allow for business expense deductions. Everyone can write off their YPC membership costs as a business deduction on his or her taxes.
What is my email address used for?
Email will only be used to communicate upcoming events and updates. Recipients are welcome to opt-out of the YPC emails at any time. Email addresses will NEVER be sent to any third party.
Can I buy a mailing list of your members?
No. YPC’s mailing list is NOT available in any form and members’ personal/contact information will NEVER be given out. However, we do offer opportunities to access our membership through sponsorship of our organization or a specific event.
I am a paid member, but my circumstances have changed (moving, no time to be involved, etc), can I get a refund?
Sorry, we do not offer refunds on membership. If you are a lifetime member and your membership is less than 18 months old, we can offer you the ability to convert your membership to an annual membership you can transfer to a friend or colleague.
Is YPC politically affiliated?
No. YPC is neutral on all political matters. At times, we may have leaders in politics speak to our group; however, their thoughts and opinions do not reflect those of our organization.
